PROTEIN & MOISTURE BALANCE

PROTEIN & MOISTURE BALANCE

Understanding whether your curls need moisture or protein can be tricky. A well balanced routine will help avoid protein overload or moisture overload.

How to know if your hair needs protein or moisture? How your hair reacts to being stretched will help determine if you need moisture or protein. Look at a shed hair strand, or take an inch of your hair and stretch it. Lightly pull the strand of hair. If your hair does not stretch (no elasticity) or breaks, feels dry and rough, it is brittle or damaged, it needs moisture. If your hair stretches far and does not return and/or breaks, feels mushy, gummy, your hair needs protein.

When in doubt, simply ensure that you have a well balanced hair care routine. Alternate between your moisturizing conditioner and protein treatment. For example, if you wash your hair once a week with a shampoo, one week use your moisturizing conditioner and on the next wash day, use your protein conditioner or treatment.

We have many efficacious options in the boutique; however, Trepadora and Hydratherma Naturals take the guesswork out of the equation. Both brands offer a protein conditioner/treatment and a moisture conditioner/treatment that you can alternate weekly to ensure you get the perfect protein and moisture balance for your hair.
