How to care for your hair in Autumn
19th Oct 2025
Here’s your Autumn hair care guide for textured hair — designed to protect your curls from dryness, breakage, and dullness as the weather gets colder.
Autumn Hair Care Guide: Caring for Textured Hair
1. Switch to a Moisturizing Shampoo
-
Use a sulfate-free cleanser that won’t strip your natural oils.
-
Look for ingredients like aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, pumpkin seed oil, argan oil, or shea butter.
-
Cleansing Conditioner: use once a week if your scalp doesn’t get too oily. We do believe that shampooing your hair is important;therefore, we recommend you alternate between your weekly shampoo and your cleansing conditoner, depending on your hair needs on wash day.

2. Deep Condition Weekly
-
As the air gets cooler and drier, moisture retention becomes crucial.
-
Deep condition at least once a week with a product rich in honey, shea butter, coconut cream, baobab seed oil, argan oil, or avocado oil.
-
Apply a heated cap or hot towel to help the conditioner penetrate deeper. If you have low porosity hair, we highly recommend this step.

3. Seal in Moisture
-
Try the LOC or LCO method (Leave-in, Oil, Cream or Leave-in, Cream, Oil).
-
Use a light oil, elixir, or Serum to seal hydration without buildup.
4. Protective Styling
-
Opt for protective styles such as braids, twists, or buns to reduce exposure to cold air.
-
Avoid styles that pull too tightly on your hair (including edges) — tension can cause breakage.
-
If you experience dryness on your scalp, keep your scalp healthy while in protective styles using a light oil.

5. Sleep Smart
-
Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase or wear a satin bonnet/scarf.
-
This prevents friction, frizz, and moisture loss overnight.
6. Trim Regularly
-
Trim your ends every 10-12 weeks to prevent split ends and breakage.
-
Healthy ends help curls maintain their shape and bounce.
7. Hydrate from Within
-
Drink water consistently and eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E.
-
Consider using a humidifier indoors to maintain moisture in the air.
8. Adjust Your Routine
-
You may need heavier creams or butters in fall than in summer.
-
Avoid overloading products—layer light to heavy textures depending on your hair’s porosity.
HAPPY FALL!
